Dialogue in Silence – an exhibition and workshop on non-verbal communication
Dialogue in Silence is an experience in total silence where participants discover a repertoire of non-verbal expression with the help of deaf and hearing impaired guides and trainers. Participants enter an area of complete silence wearing noise-cancelling headsets, and experience an environment that helps them discover openness, empathy and an enhanced power of concentration The trainers, who by virtue of their experience and their expertise in sign language are masters in non-verbal communication, show participants how to hear and listen in silence and help change their mindset towards “others”.
Dialogue in Silence is not an installation simulating deafness. On the contrary: It serves as a platform for encounters between hearing and non-hearing people advancing the overcoming of barriers between »us« and »them« and re-defining disability as ability.
