Complete silence frees students to explore new ways of communicating with the world around them.
The sensory adventure of the Dialogue in Silence exhibition – combined with its instructional themes of non-verbal Communication, Empathy and Tolerance – offers learning opportunities across curricula. Innovative lesson plans are available for use before and after the students’ visit.
Additionally, certain Dialogue in Silence sites provide educational activities for school groups. Educators use specially created exercises to help students develop sensory awareness, use non-verbal communication skills, learn about hearing impairment, increase awareness of Otherness, and begin to address social barriers. Options include an introduction to sign language, activities to prepare students before their visit and then to reflect on the experience afterward, and in-depth discussions with a guide and a sign-language interpreter.
